1 million minutes of coding, that’s what we are challenging educators to for the Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week December 4-10,2017. For the first time this year, ihub is collaborating with Brock University’s Faculty of Education to bring the Hour of Code to students in Hamilton and challenge educators from the Hamilton area to clock 1 million minutes of coding with their students, for a chance to win a Chromebook!
A room filled with Brock Education Teacher Candidates and teachers from Hamilton boards joined us to prepare for this challenge and learn more about the Hour of Code. Attendees heard from two DSBN teachers (elementary and secondary) about their personal experience with the Hour of Code, examples and photos from the successful Hour of Code run by ihub with DSBN and ended their evening with a call to action from Brock University’s own Dr.Camille Rutherford. Before leaving to brace themselves for the challenge, attendees had a chance to discuss ideas and best practices with staff from ihub, DSBN & Brock University’s Faculty of Education as well as try out a few unplugged and plugged Hour of Code activities.
I’m an educator in the Hamilton area and I’m interested, but I couldn’t attend the Intro to Hour of Code…how do I participate?
|We can’t wait to see how you implement the Hour of Code into your classrooms for the first time and see how quickly those hours add up and we hope this will be just the beginning for you!|
