ihub was selected by the Ministry of Education Incubation and Design Branch as one of the regional innovation sites part of the touring Innovation in Learning Conference, which made its final conference stop in Toronto where over 300 attendees gathered at the Beanfield Centre to discuss design thinking.
As part of the regional tour, ihub was asked to share our innovative practices and tasked with three objectives from the Ministry:
The ihub team, including resident ihub Innovative Educators, tackled the third objective by delivering a design thinking workshop that integrated entrepreneurial thinking in K12, drawing on their Entrepreneurial Thinking Interactive Toolkit as a hands-on resource that attendees used to solve problems given to them by DSBN Secondary students. Bernadette Smith, Education Officer: Incubation & Design Branch - 21C Learning Unit, who coordinated ihub’s site visit on behalf of the Ministry’s Incubation & Design Branch raved, “ihub Niagara is transforming educational practices through the infusion of design thinking for authentic purposes and leveraging tech for learning to help ensure the development of future ready students.” The workshop was so well received that ihub was invited to present an “Open Space Chat” at the culminating Innovation in Learning Conference in Toronto. The focus of hub’s discussion was the exploration ihub’s ecosystem, including best practices and discussion surrounding how greater innovation can be encouraged and supported in K12. We’re honored to have been chosen as one of the regional sites to be part of the Innovation and Learning Conference and we look forward to nurturing the connections we made throughout this process.
