Our CONNECT 2018 Highlights
ihub is instrumental in hosting the CONNECT Education Conference, Canada’s largest educational technology conference. The conference annually attracts over 2000 participants and countless Exhibitors and Sponsors that join together under one roof to collaborate, share best practices and expand our horizons of education technology in an ever increasing global and digital economy. With such a successful conference, it’s hard to pick out our favorite moments but here are some of our conference highlights:
- Our ihub Innovative Educator, Lee Martin’s electric Spotlight session, Risk Takers Wanted: Becoming The Daredevil Your Students Deserve, that featured his Mini Makers/DaredevilEDU Stunt Team from Central Public School.
- The 6 Social x DSBN Student Crossover (6Social is an innovative online solution that offers teachers and students a shared space for STEAM-based collaborations to find solutions to social challenges in the community and an OCE Project we’re partnering with the Royal Conservatory of Music, Learning Through The Arts Program on thanks to the AdvancingEducation Program). In this interactive Spotlight DSBN Students took the stage to present their social innovation projects to a panel of judges an audience that were able to participate in judging via social media.

Accelerate at CONNECT
“The focus of the next 3 hours will be on the importance of edtech startups for the future of education as a source of innovative new ways of raising the standards of 21st century teaching and learning. It is a great opportunity for key leaders and decision makers across the education ecosystem to directly connect with innovative edtech entrepreneurs.” ihub Manager, Anamaria Dragoi said as she opened the second annual Accelerate at CONNECT. ihub helped kick-start the Conference with this three-hour workshop dubbed Accelerate at CONNECT. This unique event welcomed 100 educational & industry leaders and 10 Startup companies. This workshop was mutually beneficial for participating companies & attendees, allowing startups to get immediate, authentic feedback from decision makers while educators & industry leaders received an inside look at emerging tech trends in education. The event opened with a Keynote Address from Ronald Ross, CanadaAWS, 2018 Startup Alley Sponsor. Following the informative address from Mr. Ross, each startup introduced themselves with a 90 second pitch to entice attendees to visit their table during one of the four 30-minute sit-down sessions!
